If Michelin did a Riding Tour Guide, Los Potreros would come out top, with five stars in every aspect. Many thanks.

A whole new meaning to "wide open spaces". Only rode five horses in two and a half days! Must come back for more of everything..... A definite highlight to a great trip in South America.

Manny many thanks to you all for your great hospitality. And very good to have visited and seen what you are doing. I am impressed. Atmosphere wonderful, location marvellous, Some of the best schooled and most responsive horses I've ever ridden. A hugely rewarding experience. Plus excellent company, food, dancing and more.

Thus we lived a pampered version of the gaucho life, spending most of the day in the saddle with breaks for lunch or a swim in a rock-pool but returning to the homestead in the evening for a bath, sundowners on the veranda and a splendid dinner en famille.

I have spent twenty of the happiest days of my life in this dearly loved home; the only snag is having to go away. I do so with the deepest regret, but whishing all the dear Begg's and Potrero de Niz the best of luck in the world, farewell.

There is no question about it but that your horses, tack and riding were by far the best that we encountered during our stay in Argentina. I personally felt that the horses at other places were not as well looked after and therefore not in such good condition. A small example - at one place we stayed more horses than were required for the day were saddled up in the morning - and were just left standing there for 12 hours or more with no access to water or anything else which was really totally unnecessary. The food that Teleri organised for us was the best that we had on our entire trip because it was not only delicious but also well balanced with plenty of fruit and vegetables.

One point to make is the comfort of your tack, Argentine raw hide is very hard for us!! Glad to hear that you are putting together a new site, let me know and then I can pass it on.

The food for me was perfect, though I have the simple taste of enjoying Argentine beef cooked well on an open fire washed down with a good bottle of Malbec !

I thought you had the best horses and for me the most comfortable saddles, I think other Europeans would appreciate these things but I think Argentinians ( I guess I can only speak from observing the ones I met) do not seem to pay much regard to the horses they ride and can obviously cope with the saddles.. I must say that without exception Teleri's picnics were outstanding compared to any others I had. The meals we had whilst staying with you were delicious and also the best.

I managed to do 5 sketchy paintings, 2 were landscapes, 3 were of horses which were specially provided as models. It is difficult to paint much when there are other activities on offer. 3 rides in particular stand out. One was to a waterfall in a canyon about 1hour away, through dramatic and pretty country. Another was a ride over to Potrero de Loza for lunch (though I painted instead of eating) followed by a longer than expected detour on the way home. We went up to a high point on the Sierras Chicas (the range where the farm is) with great views across to the Sierras Grandes. We tried for a short cut on the way home only to find the final gate locked, so had to retrace our steps and take another route back. Robin had given me the task of working out how to use his GPS ( a sattelite tracking system which tells you where you are, how far from home etc). The ride that day was 18 km and most of us were a bit sore. The best ride I had, though, was on a day when a cousin of Robin's, John Cowan rode over for lunch with his two small sons. Robin and I accompanied them some of their way home and I was put on a wonderful peruano horse, exuberantly willing, yet perfectly obedient. These horses have an extraordinary gait when walking fast whereby the legs on each side move in parallel rather than in opposition as is normally the case. This walk is at trotting pace , is very smooth and comfortable if you lean well back in the saddle, and is ideally suited to these rocky hills as a means of getting around fast. Two recent additions to the family are a yellow Labrador called Poppy and a black one called Pippie. They are naughty little things, forever getting in the way, pinching shoes and clothes and worryingly unaware of the dangers of being caught underneath horses or cars. When I was painting, one of them made off with one of my paintpots and wouldn't drop it. The other disappeared one afternoon and was found later with blue and red oil paint under her chin.. telltale signs that she'd been in the rubbish dump where I'd disposed of my palette scrapings. One of the jobs I took upon myself to do, purely from selfish motives, was getting the fire in the sitting room going in the morning and feeding it erratically during the day. The winter climate is delightful, close to freezing at night, but for the most part clear, dry and sunny during the day. I wore a fleece most of the time, but never felt either too cold or too hot. Its great weather for riding. To keep his guests amused Robin has invested in a series of maddening wood and wire puzzles, where the object is usually to separate 2 cunningly intertwined parts ( without using violence). However there was another one you can easily make for yourselves. Get 11 nails with flat heads. Bang one vertically into a bit of wood (or into the cork in a bottle). The challenge is then to somehow balance all the remaining 10 nails on top of it!

Sheepskins on English saddles are a great way to go - last time I went (April) I hardly suffered at all riding for five or six hours on the first two days, despite not being riding fit...The pace of the rides is varied. Some times you are on tricky, steep rocky paths, sometimes on tracks, sometimes on grassy, open hill tops, some times on dirt roads. There are plenty of opportunities to canter each day, either on the top of the ridges or on the tracks or dirt roads, but most of the rides are done at a fast walk. One of the reasons I like going back is the variety of the country - sometimes scrub, sometimes open and grassy, cooler up in the hills, slightly balmy on the edge of them, beautiful rivers and waterfalls to swim in, fantastic bird life. It is similar in some ways to the Zambian side of the Nyika plateau, though more birds and no antelope!. A major difference, of course, is the gaucho culture - in Cordoba you feel you are dipping into an old tradition.

wanted to thank you for the fantastic time I had in Cordoba, the experience was an introduction to the southern hemisphere I will never forget. I can still clearly remember the drive up to the house on that hot and exciting morning. The arrival proved much more than I expected and I am very grateful for your warm welcome to the estancia. Luis will be pleased to hear that I am still recovering from his barbecue. The quality of the horses, food and scenery has been the height of discussion here in Buenos Aires and the holiday has left us all with many wonderful memories. I learnt a lot during my stay and I hope to use my improved skills and confidence at home, I will just have to do without Negro. Thanks to Teleri, Alejandra and Mirta for looking after us all so well. Also to Luis and Jose for the help and guidance throughout the day. I can't think of a better way to spend four days, thank you very much,

Robin Our kids have just arrived back in the UK and are regaling us with great stories of their adventures in Argentina and in particular in Cordoba - it sounds as though it was magical for them and to get Holly galloping is some achievement since she wasn't even intending on riding at all! Denise and I would really like to thank you for helping make the Estancia part of their holiday so memorable. We have been looking at some of the photos and it looks wonderful. In each shot they recount a special moment - here we camped, here we swam, here we cantered, here we saw Clint Eastwood etc! Please also thank your staff who made a lasting impression and added to the richness of the time spent at Los Potreros. Many thanks and hope to meet you and your family one day! Best wishes
